Service was so lovely. Katie B was our server and she really knew what she was doing. Made for a great experience for us!
We would go back just to have her as our server again :)

*****

Food here is Amazing!! And you cant bet the price! Very happy to of accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant!

*****

Delicious food and great service.

My girlfriend and I ate at Il Vesuvio on the last night of a trip near Luray, and we both agreed that we messed up--in that we waited until our last night to eat there! The food was hands-down the best of any of the restaurants we visited during our trip. We loved the lasagna and the lobster ravioli! They were packed with flavor and perfectly prepared.

The service was also excellent. Our server, Katie, was extremely friendly and personable. She even shared some of her favorites and recommendations with us when we were struggling to make up our minds on what to order, which we appreciated very much. (We got the lasagna and ravioli on her recommendation.) She made our visit even better.

We will most definitely be eating at Il Vesuvio the next time we're in Luray!

*****

Great pizza and calzones, and the manicotti was delicious! The staff was very nice and attentive. Great meal!

*****

Great selections and very good food! Stromboli was perfect. Cheese pizza- superb. Garlic cheese beead...ok, wasn't toasted (cheese bubbly and brown tips). Reasonable pricing. Recommended!

*****

Lovely place. We did take out for pizza and it's really good. Would definitely recommend it if you're in town.

*****

This place is a bit of a sleeper. The food is excellent. I normally dont rate restaurants, to be honest, but I felt like this place is tragically underrated. Great prices too!

*****

Absolutely delicious! My little family has been coming here for some time and we love their pizzas. Today we got the southwestern rolls and the chicken bacon ranch pizza and some Mac but I didnt get a picture of the Mac and cheese because my toddler devoured it and our waitress Pamela M was super nice and friendly. Cant wait to go back again soon to get some ice cream from their new ice cream bar.

*****

Pizza was delicious.

Best meatball ever

(Translated by Google) It's a simple place but the pasta is wonderful. We liked it so much that we went for 2 days. Food with an authentic and fresh flavor. Excellent!

um lugar simples mas as massas so maravilhosas. Gostamos tanto que fomos 2 dias. Comida com sabor autntico e fresco. Excelente!

*****

Despite ordering ahead, we had to wait about an hour for our food. They must've been overloaded with orders. The pizza was pretty good, but not up to New York standards. They gave us a free glass of wine for our patience. We were tourists adding load on their night so it's hard to complain.

*****

During the rains of hurricane beryl we stopped in and decided on the vegetarian calzones. Really friendly service and we both agreed that this was one of the best calzones we have eaten in years. We would definitely eat here next time we are in the area.

*****

Excellent.

*****

Devon was our waiter and he was amazing! It was packed but the food was still great and came out relatively quick. We will be back to visit Devon! Best pizza and wings in Luray

*****

Local restaurant with a varied menu, everything was divine, excellent food. A pleasant atmosphere and good service. When leaving Luray Caverns, don't think twice and come and enjoy a delicious meal at good prices. 100% recommended

*****

Devin P. was our waiter, my husband asked him what his favorite meal was there and he said the Marsala. My husband ordered that and he said it was delicious. I had chicken alfredo and we ordered the garlic knots. We had a soda and Jack and Coke. Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. Next time we visit Stanley, VA we will be going back

*****

Great food and service! Very friendly waitress.nice closed in patio outside .dog friendly outside. The bathrooms are always clean when go there! They sell ice cream and draft beer outside on the patio. The owners are very nice and friendly and always make you feel at home when come to eat!

*****

Stopped by here after visiting the Luray Caverns, it was absolutely amazing. The host told us we could sit anywhere, and almost the moment we got our menus the waitress came to take our drink orders. The drinks were pretty quick except my lemonade ran late because they had run out. The food took time, considering it was 2 pizzas and a burger I dont blame them at all. The pizzas were great with cheese pulls non-stop, the burger was also good according to my family member who ordered that. A woman with a baby was asking our waitress a lot of questions because her baby needed things, I dont blame her because of that at all, she is a mother who needs help. During that time I was going to ask for the check, but I didnt want to interrupt her. In result we got our check at the end, completely full and done with food for the day.

Everything was delish! We came to Luray for the weekend to enjoy the National Park, hiking, fishing, and the caverns. Our first night, we were looking for a spot for dinner that wasn't too far from our cabin; we found this place on Google maps and drove down. There were five of us, 3 adults and 2 teens -- we all loved our food and the service was great. All the staff was friendly and prompt. There was a lady throwing a fit over the price of her Mr. Pibb and they all handled it with grace. We liked our meals so much, we came back the next night for dinner again. Altogether we tried the lobster ravioli, spaghetti & meatballs, lasagna, calzone, stromboli, chicken alfredo, pizza, garlic knots and mozzarella cheese sticks. Every single thing was yummy. The subs looked awesome too. Had we stayed in Luray another night, they may have seen us again! lol. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but that's the least of our concerns. This place is a diamond in the rough.

*****

Went here as a second stop. Super happy with all the food and service.

*****

Dont sleep on Il Vesuvio! We got the chicken Marsala (recommended by the waiter) and the margarita pizza! DELICIOUS!!! Totally unexpected. The. We had the expresso ice cream for dessert (again recommended by our waiter) PERFECT! Support local business and give them a chance. Cant say much about out the atmosphere but never judge a book by its cover! The chef is working it in the back!

*****

Good food, good service

*****

Nice no nonsense place, we went in late but food came out pretty quickly.

Loved the Vesuvio pasta - American style pasta with creamy tomato sauce and nice large, juicy prawns on top.

I'd probably skip the salad next time - the combo was filling but tasted a little strange (iceberg lettuce salad topped with some stir fried chicken and mushroom)

*****

Great service and great food.

*****

The service was excellent and when they accidentally sent the wrong pasta plate to my wife they corrected it and gave us a To go box for the wrong one in case we wanted it later. No charge. My only complaint is that it was a bit salty for my taste but overall a great dinner.

*****

Our server, Madison, was wonderful, very friendly and corteous. The food was good as well. Will visit again.

*****

You want the best pizza in town, scratch that, the best Italian in town, this is the place! The service is always impeccable here but my favorite is the always smiling Katie. The inclusion of the outside bar was an excellent idea! However, taking the calamari off the menu was not. Bring it back! I have eaten here several times & never, ever have I had a bad experience until the day the told me that there would be no more calamari. Whoever made that decision was wrong, wrong, wrong!

*****

OK... SHOCKINGLY SURPRISED they have legit NYC pizza crust. So good!!!! Our server was so sweet. Bonus outside LOL Beer on tap with ice cream bar. I had no room left for ice cream but it looked great.

*****

Yummy food! Great local place to eat good pizza. Very busy place, and servers were still prompt and alert.
Having air conditioning in the other building would help a lot for how many people stop by.

*****

Nice little Italian restaurant great for take out pizza, meatball parm sandwiches and a variety of other offerings. Seating areas are limited and can be crammed as it appears to be a favorite of locals. Nothing fancy. Just your basic Italian fare. Staff are welcoming and eager to serve. Can be busy at times.

*****

Our waiter Devon was exceptional. Very attentive. The food was very good.

*****

Don't be put off by the outside of the restaurant or the decor. The food is excellent! Calzone was the best I've tasted in a long time!!!

*****

Wonderful place to eat. 4 min from Luray. Very economical, best pizza and noodles ever had. It's a must visit resturant. Every food item delicious. Very efficient service.

*****

This place is a must visit if you are in Luray! We got two pizzas and fries and they were all delicious! Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We may even go back and try a calzone or one of the pasta dishes as we saw other tables have it and it all looked very good. Great portions and great prices too.

*****

Even though the building looks tired and the furnishings are simple, the food is amazing! The pizza is nearly the same as the pizza in Italy itself - fresh ingredients, thin and flaky crust. Our server was very friendly and took excellent care of our specific needs.

*****

Excellent lasagne. It was meaty and cheesy with savory sauce. Best I had in a while. Lobster ravioli were very good too. Good balance of flavor. Dinner rolls were soft and warm. Family or quiet home atmosphere. It was nice to be able to have wine with my dinner, too.

*****

Dont judge a book by its cover. This place turned out amazing, its the best Italian Ive had in a while. The chicken fettuccine Alfredo tasted very similar to what my grandma makes, and the margarita pizza doesnt feel heavy in the stomach (thin crust) and it has the perfect amount of sauce. The service was good as well.

*****

Good answer service was good.

*****

Nice American Italian restaurant. Friendly staff.

*****

The best garlic knots Ive had in my life. I keep coming back whenever I come to Luray.

*****

ll vesuvio restaurant is in my opinion the BEST food that has come out of a restaurant in Luray!! The chef really knows what he is doing. Everything from pizza calzones to baked salmon and baked penna. The server's were so friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was light and up Beat. You should catch out this restaurant if your in Luray you won't leave disappointed!

*****

Went here before going to the caverns, VERY small building. Felt very cramped because it was busy. Food came out timely. Got the bacon cheese fries, there wasnt much on them though.. couldve had more cheese and bacon. I got the luray salad with steak, it was good. Big clumps of unbroken lettuce but no biggie, good flavor. Then I got a small Hawaiian pizza they put A LOT of pineapple on it so maybe next time Ill ask for less. My boyfriend got a Stromboli and had no complaints. Our waitress couldve checked in more but they were VERY busy so its understood. Overall I would recommend this place

*****

Salad , thin crust pizza were too good!

*****

Great little Italian place. We visited while we were camping near by at Shenandoah River Outfitters. My wife and I split a small chicken bacon ranch pizza that was 8 slices. It was very tasty. We also ordered the caesar fries as an appetizer. They were excellent. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

*****

Small, and I mean small place. Great food and great service! We will definitely be back!

*****

Our waitress was fantastic, she gave great recommendations, great info on the food, great attitude (despite being busy) as well as the food coming out really really good! Id recommend coming here, especially if your coming from out of town!

*****

We enjoyed the food and would eat here again for the food. The garlic knots were great, and the meat pizza was very good as well.
However, the place was a bit warm (it was nearly 100 outside though) and there were a lot of flies inside, which would probably push us somewhere else next time.

*****

Small restaurant with yummy pizza. We got a half cheese half pepp pizza and my teen described it as like in the movies where its super cheesy. We finished a whole pizza it was so good. Restaurant was dated but cozy and the waitress was lovely. If your in the area and want a good option for lunch you should check this place out

*****

Great food. Very casual. The day we visited it was very hot and the restaurant was quite warm.

*****

Enjoyed this place. Good service, short wait time for food. Fair prices. Large portions! Food was delicious!

*****

We had the chicken parm and lobster ravioli. Both meals were very good. For dessert we had the fried dough balls. Those were great! Our server, Martina, was wonderful! Thanks for a great meal!

*****

Incredible Calamari and dolce de leche cake. Very good calzone, gluten free options, and service.

*****

Great pizza and wings! Very flavorful.
The restaurant is clean, inside and outside seating area.

Me and my son are just in town for the night to explore Luray Caverns. We decided to have pizza for dinner and figured we would try Vesuvio. The wait staff was very friendly and everybody had on a smile. Our waitress was a pleasure to talk to. It was a simple order. We both had sweet tea and got a large pepperoni pizza. The sweet tea was actually really good. It wasn't too sweet because whoever made it knows you don't have to pour pounds of sugar in it. The pizza was really good. The sauce wasn't acidic at all and the cheese was the right amount. They didnt skimp oit on the pepperoni nor overload it. The crust had a little crunch to it and was spot on. If I didn't live over 4 hours away, I would definitely make this a regular spot to eat out. If you live local or just passing through, I highly recommend this spot. 2 big thumbs way up!

*****

Wow! Excellent food, very clean, amazing restaurant & staff. HIGHLY recommend! Seriously go now!

*****

A simple, unassuming place with nice service and good food. Stopped here for a late lunch after visiting Luray Caverns. The staff were very friendly and our waitress was kind and thoughtful. We enjoyed everything, but the garlic knots were really our favorite (and they gave so many!) and served with a warm marinara sauce. We also had onion rings and a veggie pizza, which were both crispy and satisfying, with extra sauces given at no charge. Everything was piping hot and seemed freshly made. We really enjoyed ourselves.

*****

Food was fantastic!

*****

Best Italian food I've tasted in a long time. We went three days in a row. EVERYTHING was delicious. I could eat the sauce out of a bowl with a spoon!

*****

Above and beyond the best NY-style pizza I have managed to find in the entirety of Virginia. Do not trust the lies fed to you by locals, nothing compares to this place.

*****

Everything was great! We came to Luray on a two-day trip, and ended up visiting 3 times. Everything we tried was amazing. The garlic knots, pastas, burger, pizza and more!

*****

Had a great experience here! Perfect place to dine in after a long drive. Highly recommend the calzones and house brewed ice-tea. My friends loved the vesuvio and toscano pastas too!

*****

Yummy pizza with covered outer seating available

*****

Pacific veggie is excellent.

*****

Greatest calzone I've ever eaten. All around great experience. #loving vesuvius
#frommaine

*****

The staff was very friendly.

*****

I had the chicken Alfredo with broccoli. We also ordered a pizza to go for later. Service was excellent. Was not used to the pizza with the meat like they did it though. It wasn't bad.

*****

I ordered the chicken saltimbocca! OMG! This was soooo good!!! The service was great. Food came out fast. The place was light and airy. Definitely check this place out!

*****

We were staying at nearby Spacious Skies Shenandoah Views in our trailer when we decided to try out Il Vesuvio after quite a few high recommendations. We were sure glad we did! We ordered the pizza with half pepperoni (kinda interesting that the "half" option was only offered with pepperoni but not a big deal; I understand custom orders can get a bit tricky) and a side of wings. Both were super tasty and definitely recommended. It's obvious the employees work very hard to keep their patrons happy from the excellent food to very friendly and accommodating service. When not waiting on their patrons, they're running around tidying up and keeping themselves busy. Also happy to strike up conversations on what to do around Luray and other places to visit.

An overall great experience, we'll also highly recommend Il Vesuvio as well!

*****

Pizza, pasta, and calzone was delicious. Definitely a hidden gem in Luray. Waiter was friendly, patient, and attentive. Prices were fantastic! The marinara sauce alone was worth coming back for.

*****

While visiting from out of state to check out the Caverns, we stopped in for dinner and was not disappointed. The meatball sub & pizza were delicious. Our waitress (Chasidy) was very helpful and nice. If we are ever back in the area, we would definitely return!

*****

The employees were so sweet and the food was hands-down the best Italian food my family and I have ever had. 5/5 :)

*****

Excellent Margarita Pizza, excellent garlic knots. Great prices, highly recommend. A true test of a pizza maker is how they make the humble margarita pizza - they do a fabulous job. Thin crust, crispy where it needs to be, flavorful sauce and just the right amount of mozzarella and fresh basil.

*****

Aside from the garlic knots leaking on my pants from the box when I picked up the food and service was great! price and size was great for a small pizza!

*****

First time eating here today and we had a great experience. Great portions for the price and even bettereverything was absolutely delicious! We tried the garlic knots, split a calzone and ended lunch with a cannoli each. 10/10 would recommend.

*****

"Il Vesuvio: Authentic Italian cuisine in luray virginia. They offer Delicious pizzas, cozy atmosphere, personalized service. A must-visit for Italian food lovers!" They loaded potatoe chips are a must have

*****

Stopped here a couple years ago, but wanted to update my review to include details that may help when choosing a place to eat.

We Stopped in Luray and couldn't figure out where to eat, so we asked the lady at the front desk of the hotel we were staying at, and she highly recommended this restaurant.

We didn't know what to expect when we walked in, the outside looked a little rundown and dated. The service was fantastic and they had some of the best chips I've ever had, definitely a hidden gem when traveling through and a must stop. The employees were very helpful and nice. I was looking for something extra extra spicy and the cooks there went above and beyond trying to make me the spicest sauce they could. Seen them a couple of times looking out from back in the kitchen to see if it was spicy enough lol. They did amazing with the ingredients they had readily available.

The food was so delicious and we look forward to eating here again when ever life brings us back through town.

*****

The house soup is the best, made to order every time!

*****

The pizza was AMAZING! Super crisp, thinnish crust with great flavor. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. Highly recommend!

*****

*****

Great pizzas! Stopped by after coding lurray caverns. Def recommend it for family and friends for a quick meal:)

*****

Food and service never disappoints. The garlic knots were delicious!

*****

Cute little place, the best steak and cheese. The bun was toasted perfect

*****

Probably the best Italian food in town. The pizzas are really good and the hamburger sub is the best I've had in the county.

There's outdoor seating when weather permits. The interior is a little dated but comfy.

*****

Best chicken marsala I've ever had

*****

Garlic knots were great, and the meatballs were especially excellent!

*****

Fun place to eat after lurray caverns

*****

I had my post-engagement dinner with my now fiancé and families at this restaurant. The food was delicious and in good portions. The staff was extremely friendly and checked on us frequently. They even helped us decorate the table and helped us keep a cake we brought cold! We sat in their outdoor area and it was a great atmosphere and made the celebration such a good time! I had the meat pizza and it was absolutely delicious. If I lived closer I would absolutely frequent this place!

*****

Nice italian restaurant in the area. Very decent and good staff. I loved the vibe in this restaurant.

*****

*****

Very nice restaurant.

*****

Had lunch here while visiting the Luray caverns. The food was really fresh-especially the pizza dough and the veggies. Service was good and fast too. The best part was the view from the outdoor seating.

*****

We went here after hiking Old Rag, and it was fabulous!! The garlic knots were to die for. We had pizza and calzones. Everything was delicious!!

*****

We went to this restaurant for dinner last night and ended up splitting an antipasto and a small pizza called The Works. Both were tasty. A gentleman next to us had the Garlic Knots and he was overwhelmed by the size of the portion, so he forced us to try them, so we each had one and they too were good tasting. The menu is a pretty good size, so there are several good options. Our server Chasidy was nice and she did a good job.
Overall, we were happy with our decision to go here.

*****

Food was amazing!!! We had some pizza and 4 different entrees!

*****

Food was amazing!!

*****

Great Pizza

*****

Vegan & plant-based friendly!
Upon request, they made the balsamic brussel sprouts vegan. Delicious!

*****

The server is new so I wont be so hard on her, but she did drop my drink. Thank goodness it was a plastic bottle and didnt break. The food was pretty good, I wouldnt get the garlic knots again they have too much butter on them, and the garlic and Parmesan wings. It felt a little expensive for what we got though.

*****

The real deal!

We went visiting the cave a mile down the road, so we needed something fast before io a 3 hour drive back home.

Il Vesuvio popped out of nowhere just like in a Sopranos movie so I liked the name reviews were good so we decided to give it a try.
The parking and entrance can be a bit confusing and you wonder but getting inside the feel was more like a big family that everybody knows everyone and that was a good feeling.
Friendly staff, and when asked what they suggest they recommended the Vesuvio dish and garlic knots.

The moment I took the first bite I knew this is an original trattoria dish, sure enough the chef is a real Italian and this was the best Italian dish I had outside Italy.

Give it a try and you wont be disappointed, but if you expect fancy place and treatment this is not for you. Order the food to go!

I enjoyed the family feel, great food and homie feel.

I only wish I live closer so I can eat here 3 times a day

*****

We stop here every time we visit Luray Caverns. Its our favorite restaurant in Luray. The pizza is delicious. The appetizers are delicious (our favorite is the cheese garlic bread!) Service is always good too. If youre in the area or visit Luray, we highly recommend Il Vesuvio for lunch or dinner!

Meals are very good and reasonably priced. This is a great alternative to fast food, way better selections, excellent service and very tasty and diverse menu items. A good place for a good meal.

*****

I'm visiting my family from Venice California where we have some of the finest restaurants in the world and I would put their food up against any of them. There's a laid back vibe of a family run business that was just refreshing and comfortable. Can't praise this place enough. I wish we where lucky enough to have a gem like this back home. 100% more than satisfied.

*****

Staff was awesome, food was great it was hot but superb. Definetly good, and it is definetly a fair price.

*****

Highly recommend! Our server, Emily, went above and beyond to take care of our party of 8, which included four hungry and rambunctious kids. The food was delicious - we had garlic knots, salad and a few different pizzas. They also offered several wine and beer choices, and we enjoyed the outdoor seating. If you're in the area definitely give them a try!

*****

Best Italian food I've ever tried.. everything was just perfect and yummy..
We ordered pizza margarita.. chicken pasta and lasagna...
Everything was simply delicious..

*****

Had a great dinner here while traveling with the family.
Had lasagna, pizza, Stromboli, steak, garlic knots and wings. (We like to try some of everything)
The food is delicious and tastes homemade.
Prices are very reasonable and the staff was friendly!
They offered my wife a sample of the wine she ordered, and made a recommendation on one she might like better. That's not something you see at the average family restaurant/pizza joint.
Will visit here again when I visit Luray.

*****

Great

*****

Emily is a sweetheart! House chips were yummy and garlic knots were plentiful! A little pizzeria gem in Luray (-: Thanks again to the best server, Emily!

*****

Great experience! Delicious food! Awesome staff! Martina took great care of us!

*****

Little pizza place close to the cave. Great pizza. Came out super fast.

*****

I absolutely love this place. The baked salmon was well seasoned, and the seafood linguine was the best I ever had. I would also recommend the cannoli.

*****

It was very clean and food was great

*****

Pleasantly surprised! Pizza crust is addictive, seafood soup had real seafood and a lot of it. Relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

*****

We went in while on vacation and like most of the people in luray they were friendly it was mostly empty when we got there. I ordered the saltimbocca and it was really good also a big portion I think one order could fill 2 people and probably still have leftovers the service was good too the waitress was welcome to joking around and entertaining our shenanigans so overall a good place to eat and I'd recommend other people try this place when in town.

*****

Hidden gem. Very clean restaurant including the RR. Fast service & super friendly waitress. Everything was fresh. Price for a large pizza was very reasonable. My husband & I were very pleased with our experience. I would highly recommend.

*****

Currently visiting the area, and for our first evening we wanted a relaxing dining experience close to our cabin. We found the charming Il Vesuvio on Google and made our way over, easily finding the restaurant and plentiful parking. Walking inside we were promptly greeted and given menus, then we made our way to the outside covered seating, where we were served by the pleasant and informative, Emily. She made a lot of good suggestions and knew exactly what she was talking about, providing us with her choice of starter, as we were unsure what to choose from with the large selection on the menu. The house chips are a simple yet tasty starter which isn't too heavy, also taking Emily's suggestion of keeping the sauce on the side to keep the chips from getting soggy. We knew what we wanted for the main course, the lasagna and veggie calzone, both delicious and resulted in clean plates. For dessert we both wanted the tiramisu, which unfortunately wasn't available due to being extremely popular, but once again we were pointed in the right direction. I opted for the carrot cake, a new menu addition and a personal favorite, which didn't disappoint, I would definitely recommend it.
To summarize, the service was fast, the place had a comfortable and friendly feel, and the food was great and had a reasonable price. If you are visiting or passing through, I would recommend stopping by and trying for yourself.

*****

Monica really made us feel welcomed and at home! Food was delicious and Im glad I stopped by

This place is amazing!!! The servers were super nice, the food was delicious and the portion sizes were massive!!!! The highly recommend the garlic knots!

The pizza, salads and subs we got were great. My only complaint is that the kids meal was not right. I got spaghetti for the baby and it had what looked like a tablespoon of sauce on otherwise bland/plain noodles.

*****

Broad menu with lots of choices. Pizza is really good, 12 inch more than enough for two people. Particularly excellent service especially from Emily. As a matter of fact, we walked out of another restaurant earlier because the service was so awful. So Emily not only fed us good food, but satisfied our hunger for excellent service.

*****

Tasty pizza that was just as good hot as it was as leftovers.

*****

The food was great! Most we order items tasted very good. The price was reasonable too. We ordered the popular pasta and garlic knot and they were great!

*****

The best pasta I ever had! Strongly recommend to dine here!!

*****

Stopped by after Luray Caverns and the food was great!

*****

every time we come camping with the family we come to eat pizza it is delicious

*****

We have eaten here twice. Both times the food was hot, fresh and tasty. Portion size was generous! Service was excellent even when they had a full restaurant. Very happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a great place to grab a bite in Luray.

*****

The new outdoor patio was amazing!! We stopped by after Luray Caverns since it was only a 4 minute drive. Really great pasta!

*****

The restaurant had great reviews so we decided to give it a try! Casual atmosphere. Great service! The food was delicious! I had the salmon and my husband had the pizza. There was a steady stream of customers which confirmed to us it was a good choice! Definitely recommend!

*****

Great service. Food was authentic and tasted great!
Clean and neat.
Employees are very hard workers.

*****

Good food, and huge portions

*****

Great home cooked style food. Really nice people.

*****

This was such a nice surprise. We visited the caverns and had plans to eat a sandwich shop downtown Luray, but it was closed, so we just "settled" for this place. The oitside doesn't look like much, but the food was great! The pizza was very good. I recommend this place for sure.

*****

The food was okay. I would have low expectations of anything other than pizza

Great little Italian restaurant its not fancy but the food and service was good

*****

FANTASTIC food. We were staying next door and decided to get takeout since we had COVID last week and were isolating as much as possible. Even though it was VERY busy, the food was ready by the time we checked in and took our things to the room. We were hoping for passable, but the food was really delicious. We had the Luray salad and a large plain pizza and it was enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. The prices were great, too - we only paid a couple of dollars more than we did for 2 sandwiches at Subway (the only thing we could find for lunch). Friendly service.

*****

Great pizza, sandwich, pasta joint, not fancy and not a lot of space inside. But the food was great and portions were large. I got the Vesuvio sandwich - could only eat half and took half home.

*****

Delicious food with exceptional service.

*****

Too buttery for me, but my parents had the pancakes and eggs, and they really enjoyed it. People inside are pretty nice

*****

Pizza was delicious as was their Fruits du Mer linguine! If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be back.

*****

Great restaurant, delicious lasagna, pizzas, soups, we liked everything we ordered. Good luck with your continued delicious cooking.

*****

Hole in the wall pizza joint. Probably the best pizza you can find in Luray. Pales in comparison to big city pizza joint. Wife thought they could have added more flavor to the wings. Service was great. Parking was pretty tight though.

*****

Had a fun Wednesday evening. Enjoyed karaoke night.

*****

Awesome wings,pizza and knots...

Great waitress just a bit cramped picking up our food.

*****

best sirloin cheeseburger I've ever had. The restaurant is very simple and unpretentious. We had sirloin cheeseburger, calimari, steak and cheese sub. All were very good. Only small complaint is that they need to have CREAM or Half-n-Half for coffee (currently they only give you milk, which is not how I like coffee). Staff is attentive and pleasant.

*****

Amazing service, delicious food def go had the chicken parm and calzone. Family friendly

*****

Food was delicious at great prices
Pri was our server
She has a great attitude

*****

What a great little secret tucked into the hills of VA. Great food.

*****

Good food reasonable price

*****

Best Garlic knots around. Great prices for fresh ,homemade Italian food .

*****

This place is very busy around the holidays. Looked to be the best pizza in town, so we tried it out. It's definitely a better-than-average pizza. Hooray, they have sliced sausage as a topping!

*****

The food is excellent will definitely be going back thear for the stake and cheese

Great food great service

*****

Totally worth stopping....more than once !!!

*****

Good salmon with mashed potatoes, very polite waiter and friendly menager. Thank you!

*****

This is a pleasant little place. The food is must try, very near to the Luray caverns. Anyone who wants to try some good pizza and chicken wings this is the place to go.

*****

Generous servings. The pizza was great, and we loved the mushroom paste. The baked ziti was quite underwhelming. We also liked the jalapeno poppers and garlic knots.

*****

Excellent food and friendly service on November 25, 245 pm. Order was accurately served per preference. Vegetarian pizza, baked salmon, garlic bread with mozzarella, vesuvio sub, grilled cheese with French fries, wine, beer were ordered.

*****

I mustve eaten at this place 20 times. I go back at least twice a week.

*****

Excellent and quick Service. Food portions are good and very filling. Garlic knots and Zuccini fries are great appetizers. Pizza was okay.

*****

After a disastrous meal across the street at the speakeasy we opted for a pizza and calzone at il vesuvio. Not a bad pizza at all and the calzone was huge. Overall the food wasn't incredible compared to NYC pizza but for rural Virginia and considering the horrible restaurants in town this is really an oasis at a reasonable price.

*****

After a hiking and amazing day at Shenandoah National Park we were staying in Luray for the night and for dinner we searched near us to have delicious dinner.
We searched near us and seeing the reviews we decided to have dinner at II Vesuvio Italian Restaurant.
Accessibility and Restaurant
Italian Restaurant is like 30-35 minutes from Shenandoah National Park.
It is a small restaurant with the seating available inside. Seeing the number of people it seemed it was the popular restaurant in the area.
Food and Service
When we entered the restaurant we were greeted as soon as we entered it. We were 2 people and we were seated soon.
We had to wait for 10 minutes before our server Hannah came with the menus.
After exploring the menus for the drink i ordered Crown Royal Whisky & Cola Cocktail and for food we ordered Zucchini Fries, Salmon & Small Vegetarian Pizza with Xtra Fresh Mozzarella.
Soon we got our drink which was amazing and good cocktail.
We had to wait for 5-10 minutes and we got the Zucchini Fries. Zucchini fries are the must try delicious fries. They were tasty, freshly made and hot.
Then we got our pizza and salmon.
Vegetarian Pizza was also amazing and delicious. It seemed like it was freshly made with vegetables and cheese. Loved the pizza.
Salmon was also delicious and it was perfectly cooked with all the spices and cooked well.
Amazing and delicious Italian restaurant with the reasonable prices.

*****

Great little restaurant. Good pizza, great service

*****

Not pretentious, but the best food!! Hannah is an awesome server and you would not expect the food to be as great as it was. If you're looking for atmosphere, run along. If you're looking for great food, enjoy!!

*****

Sweet local place with humble interior and really well priced fresh casual food.

*****

The chicken piccata is amazing!! The chips with Parmesan, just delicious. About to make myself sick because I cant stop eating it.! Best Italian food in town!

*****

Im a black man and Ive been treated fantastically and bri and Devon are amazing.

*****

Garlic knots! Oh my!!!!

*****

What a pleasant surprise right next to our motel. Service and food were excellent and will definitely be back if we come to the area again. We had the Chicken Parmigiana and Marsala, both were cooked perfectly and tasted great. You've got to try the Raspberry Donut Cheesecake it's devine, you can even pair you meal with local wines. My thanks to the chef for a truly memorable meal.

*****

Definitely recommend. Food is delish!!!

*****

Food was delicious service was great would highly recommend

*****

A yummy gem for a small town. Homemade pizza, plus the salad was really good, loved the excellent local red wine also. The rest of the food to others were having looked just as good Hannah my waitress was a sweetie also. Its a small indoor space but moves fast or worth the wait or just sit outside, plus they have takeout.

*****

The food and service are amazing. I had spaghetti fruity di mare and was delicious. Pizza is great, too. One of my favorite places.

*****

II Vesuvio is good Italian in a lovely location. Indoor and outdoor seating options. Everything that we tried was delicious.
We had a great time and the staff was friendly. Recommend trying this place if you are in Luray, VA and hankering for Italian.

*****

This is my go-to when in Luray. Last time I was here I had the garlic knots. They were great. Next time I'll remember to use the correct entrance!

*****

Both the sandwiches and pasta are on point at this place!

*****

Wow super pizza

*****

Came here after visiting Luray caverns and was really impressed with the margarita pizza here. Devon was an excellent host and I would highly recommend any tourists to this location. The garlic knots and pizza was fresh and piping hot too!

*****

GiGi made our experience at Il Vesuvius extra special. Wonderful food, great company and her service was excellent. We were a large (loud at times) group and nothing phased her. The food and drinks just kept coming. The restaurant is conveniently located near the historic Mimslyn Inn in the quaint city of Luray with a scenic view of the Blue Ridge Mtns.

*****

Food was fabulous, large portions for leftovers.
Hanna, our waitress was wonderful, friendly, and entertaining, who a great sense of humor.
It was karaoke night, and the DJ was fun and was exceptionally good, with a broad variety of music, and took requests.

*****

Amazing food - best we had in the entire area and Hannah, our waitress, took care of us well. Not only worth a visit, but we will be back tomorrow.

*****

Very good pizza with crispy ends Great service, smiles and caring. Good selection of drinks (soft drinks, bottled...)
Great taste on the Pepperoni pizza .
Small "mom&pop" restaurant**totally worthy with Lovely outdoor seating also. Located in quiet street corner which also offer access to the old historic downtown.

*****

My family and I were driving by on a recent trip and decided to stop. I am so glad that we did because this place is DELICIOUS! Their pizza is cooked perfectly and they have the best lemonade Ive ever had. My very picky daughter loved the spaghetti and meatballs. Worth every penny!

*****

Obviously a local favorite. Service was fast and friendly. Pizza was better than any national chain. Easy in and out for tourists.

*****

The best calzone I have eaten, the staff was very friendly

*****

Ordered the calzone with everything ! It was really good ! Good service , very friendly !

*****

Nice Italian restaurant. Food is very good at an affordable price. There is an outdoor area that is very popular during the summer. It gets busy during the weekends. Service was a little slow because it got so busy.

*****

Good food. Very small inside , and a little run down . Overall pretty good.

*****

Ate here 8/18 after visiting the caverns, the pizza is excellent, have eaten at a lot of pizza places ..the sauce, dough is excellent, the staff was great very helpful as well ..

*****

I had an excellent Vesuvio sub on a fresh Italian bun. If you are looking for a great Italian sub, this is it! Fresh Cap, salami, and ham with pepperoncinis, and mayo. I asked for light mayo and it was perfect. As I was there, I saw HUGE fresh handmade garlic knots and a beautiful fresh pepperoni pie brought out to a table. We are definitely going back!! Incidentally, the restaurant was packed full of happy diners. Highly recommend.

*****

We had the friendliest and sweetest server. The homemade sauces were amazing! Its a laidback atmosphere, and we loved the small town feel. Definitely stop here for a great selection of yummy foods!

*****

Everything was so tasty and fresh! Calzone was crispy on the outside and fluffy and cheesy on the inside. Steak and Cheese was perfect. Even the antipasto salad was delicious. Crispy and fresh. Thank you Chasidy for the great service!

*****

Great little Italian place! Piping hot garlic knots, crispy zucchini fries, delicious doughy cheesy calzone! Our waitress Gigi was attentive, personable, and made excellent recommendations. We will definitely be back when were in town again!

*****

Whole fam had dinner here. Food far exceeded expectations. GiGi are server was the star of the show. Highly recommend the garlic knots but my steak was on point too. Everything was yummy and everyone was friendly.

*****

Excellent Italian food. Zucchini fries were great. Waitress was, Gigi, she did a great job. Polite, and nice. A must dine restaurant here in Luray. Bring family and kids.

*****

Delicious food and great service from Gigi! Chicken Marsala was the highlight of the meal

*****

Garlic knots and pizza were out of this world. I would be here all the time if I lived here. Gigi was a great server!

*****

Service was remarkably good and garlic knots were better than ever

*****

Stopped in late from NJ.ordered the eggplant was pleasantly surprised it was very good as was the Vesuvio salad,Devon our waiter was very pleasant.

*****

Very nice staff in a small restaurant in a small town. Prices were reasonable and the food was very good. Especially liked the potato croquettes as an appetizer. Tables are a little cramped but we didn't mind.

*****

TLDR; This is an homey restaurant with huge portions and very flavorful dishes. Would absolutely recommend.

Was visiting Luray and Shenandoah and stopped by here for a late night bite, and I am so glad I did. The restaurant is smaller with if I recall a dozen or so tables but it gives a very homey atmosphere. We ordered sweet tea which was soo addicting and the appetizer we got was delicious. The way their tomatoes and olive oil (I think?) mixed together with the toasted bread made me fall in love and I DESPISE tomatoes. The entrees were awesomely MASSIVE and full of flavor. I hardly eat European food and the last time I had a calzone or baked ziti was out of a school cafeteria. Vesuvios made me realize what I was missing out on. The staff was extremely polite and kind and the place was very clean. Would absolutely recommend eating here if youre coming through Luray.

*****

I'm glad I came to this place. The food was delicious, the orders came out fast and our waitress was very kind and came to our table to check everything was Ok. Amazing local experience.

*****

Tasty Pizza and Lasagna!

*****

Great little pizza joint with friendly staff and local wines. Definitely recommend the lasagna. I was so hungry when I got here I forgot to take photos of the food. Regardless, you wont be disappointed.

*****

Really good food. The chicken piccata I would recommend to anyone it was delicious.

*****

Gigi provided excellent and attentive service. We ordered eggplant parm and a margarita Pizza. both items came out hot and quite frankly with an incredible sauce and was delicious. What a find.

*****

Excellent service AND the BEST SPROUTS EVER!! (Feta was a lovely and kind waitress!)

*****

My husband and I just had an incredible meal. The salad was good, the pizza was the best weve had anywhere and the sub was amazing. Bri was our server and despite being very busy she did a great job and was attentive to us while apparently being the shift manager. She interacted with staff in a very positive way while greeting customers that came through the door. We also observed Hannah and GiGi working very hard as well. We did not catch the chefs name but they deserve a huge thank you for a delicious meal. Even though we live more than an hour away we will be back soon! Thanks to all!! This was a five star experience!!

*****

The Luray Salad was out of this world!!! The service was excellent. Gigi was our server and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and served us quickly.

*****

Garlic knots are amazing. Our server GiGi was awesome. Small, busy, but friendly and funny. My only criticism was our antipasto salad. It was iceberg, a couple sliced of tomato, a few slices of meat/cheese. That was it and a far cry from an antipasto.

*****

Excellent food and excellent service! The pizza was very good, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and prompt!

*****

Gigi at Il Vesuvio is a paragon of the food service profession. She was an ambassador to the Lurays presentation of Sicilian foods, bringing us plate after plate of crackling carbohydrate with good cheer. She attended to our every need, managing our multitudinous requests with grace. She managed not to chuckle as we loaded and stacked our to go containers six-high and wobbled out. A pleasure, Gigi: our lunch at Il Vesuvio will be long cherished.

*****

Amazing. Everything was amazing. I had their shrimp scampi and fresh squeezed lemonade. My husband had their chicken Alfredo. We shared the fried dough balls with ice cream. Gigi is an amazing waitress

*****

This is a little known gem of a restaurant in Luray. Whenever you are visiting this lovely town, make a point to stop by and have the garlic knots appetizer and don't skimp on the tiramisu!

*****

We have been here multiple times and have enjoyed the food and service every time.
Gigi was very attentive and professional in spite of the large crowd on a Saturday night.

*****

My far, this is the best pizza Ive ever had. And trust me, as a 300 pound balding old man, Ive had a slice or two in my life. If visiting Luray, you must give these nice folks a try.

*****

Gigi was great! Thank you for the quick and friendly service

*****

Gigi was absolutely an amazing server. The bruschetta was fantastic!

*****

Nice place, great service. Fresh squeezed lemonade and made fro scratch potato chips.

*****

Awesome food and nice servers! Very tasty house-made dough and fresh ingredients, even homemade lemonade. Try the saltimbocca if you like Italian sandwiches (but careful they are big!). Good local beer/wine. Well worth the quick side trip while visiting the caverns.

Genarros is our favorite place in Luray to eat on our annual fishing trip on the Shenandoah. Great food great service and good prices. Get the garlic knots!

*****

We are here back to back days,. It was that good. Pizza ... Good. Steak and cheese ... Good. Apps ... Good.

*****

Always delicious. Great crust, friendly service. Very accommodating! We asked to do half and half on a large pizza, with two different sauces. We didn't mind the sauces spilling into each other but they made cute little dividing borders. Buffalo chicken is a must to try.

Edit 2021: well, they no longer accommodate half/half pizzas:( still pretty good though

*****

Great food

Food is excellent

*****

Good was fast, good and the staff was very sweet. Definitely a must stop if your in Luray, VA!

*****

Great little and, I literally mean little, Italian joint in Luray.

*****

The best takeout pizza in Luray. Don't bother ordering anything other than the pizza. Wish they were open every day. Only open on weekends currently

*****

After coming down the earth from the caverns, lol. I like the place, the food, the service. Just that I get the wrong calzone :-(but, Will came back.

*****

Do yourself a favor, go here..it's small, the staff is wonderful even understaffed. My wife has chicken and broccoli...she let me try it I immediately regretted getting my pizza, until it came, it was fantastic, full of flavor and the giant plate of garlic knots!? C'mon..We will make it a point to eat here when passing through...

*****

The pizza was absolutely delicious!! Wings and garlic knots were also very good. Would definitely recommend!

*****

We got the margarita pizza and a veggie calzone and it was delicious. But the pumpkin pie with pumpkin ice cream and raspberry cheesecake were even better! They are very short staffed so pacience is important but they're friendly and we really enjoyed our dinner.

*****

Cute little restaurant with great ziti and pizza!

*****

Absolutely delicious. The best garlic knots I have ever had!

*****

Friendly service. The food tastes good. Easy parking.

*****

Excellent! Great food & friendly service at sensible prices.

*****

Great service and really good food (besides calamari I would not recommend it). The pizza crust is perfect and the sauce is made in house. Garlic knots were the best appetizer that we tried.

*****

Everything was delicious. The garlic knot with marinara were the best!

*****

Far exceeded my expectations. Menu was huge and had something for everyone and the waitress was friendly. The cheese pizza and mozzarella garlic bread were great. I definitely recommend eating here if you're in town or passing by.

Calzones were excellent. Busy place on a Friday night.

*****

We took the advice of other reviews and got the garlic knots. They were delicious! We were happy with all the items we ordered. Portions are generous. Good service!

*****

It was the first restaurant that we tried in Luray. The food was delicious and the service was great. I couldnt have asked for more, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

*****

Small restaurant but the waitress was nice and professional and the food was good. I recommend the ranch chicken pizza and the garlic knots. After visiting the caverns this is a nice spot in town for lunch

*****

Excellent! Our 5 year old grandson wanted mac and cheese for his birthday lunch and he was so happy with their creamy homemade version! He gobbled it right up! We also tried the Il Vesuvio sub, the Italian wedding soup, garlic bread with mozzarella, french fries and house chips. Everything was delicious! The house chips were amazing! Our waitress Rebecca was super sweet and kind. Definitely recommend and will come back!

*****

Great food and service.

*****

Great food and service!

*****

I came in with a party of five at a later time than we all would've liked, but it was a rare opportunity to see an old friend passing through town. The service and food was above and beyond outstanding. The crew was wonderful and went above and beyond for them. I'll definitely be going back again, but at a reasonable time. I just wish I had gotten the name of the amazingly cool server we had so I could mention him by name. Thanks so much for a fantastic experience.

*****

Food was awesome and reasonably priced. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Would absolutely recommend, especially on a Monday night when half the restaurants in town are closed.

*****

Great place for some Italian specialties made with love. We really enjoy the garlic knots and chicken with broccoli pasta.

*****

We ate at the outdoor picnic tables with our family over spring break. Its casual atmosphere is deceptive because the food is really on point. The pizza crust is a great mix of doughy and crisp and the brussel sprouts on special were delectable. The service was very friendly, even amidst being short staffed and getting slammed for dinner. I would definitely make a point to return here if ever visiting Luray again.

*****

Delicious! I was surprised at how good and fresh the food was. We stopped by for a casual lunch and the Luray salad was over the top and good. The pizza bread was one of the best doughs Ive had. They make it each day. Great prices for wonderful food.

*****

We read a lot of the negative reviews and we went anyway and they were all wrong! The wine glasses are small, but the wine pours were generous! Both the chicken piccata and the eggplant parmesan had a delicious sauce, which is very difficult to do in such a busy restaurant! The eggplant was cooked beautifully and was not overly fried. The pasta was cooked al dente. We each had enough leftover for a snack the next day. The servers were extremely friendly. The only two criticisms I have are that the ambience is kind of poor given the proximity to a busy street and lack of plants to shelter/spruce up the patio and that the bread served with the meal wasnt very appetizing. Both of those issues pale in comparison to everything else, which was marvelous.

*****

Great service, great food, and fun times on Wed night karaoke

*****

Amazing food! Great service! Definitely coming back!

*****

Good food

*****

Great, large portions. The Pizza was great.

*****

Great food and service!

*****

Great food and service.

*****

*****

Small restaurant but the waitress was nice and professional and the food was good. I recommend the ranch chicken pizza and the garlic knots. After visiting the caverns this is a nice spot in town for lunch

*****

It was the first restaurant that we tried in Luray. The food was delicious and the service was great. I couldnt have asked for more, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

*****

Great place for some Italian specialties made with love. We really enjoy the garlic knots and chicken with broccoli pasta.

*****

Calzones were excellent. Busy place on a Friday night.

*****

We took the advice of other reviews and got the garlic knots. They were delicious! We were happy with all the items we ordered. Portions are generous. Good service!

*****

Far exceeded my expectations. Menu was huge and had something for everyone and the waitress was friendly. The cheese pizza and mozzarella garlic bread were great. I definitely recommend eating here if you're in town or passing by.

*****

Great service and really good food (besides calamari I would not recommend it). The pizza crust is perfect and the sauce is made in house. Garlic knots were the best appetizer that we tried.

*****

Everything was delicious. The garlic knot with marinara were the best!

*****

Friendly service. The food tastes good. Easy parking.

*****

Excellent! Great food & friendly service at sensible prices.

*****

Absolutely delicious. The best garlic knots I have ever had!

*****

The pizza was absolutely delicious!! Wings and garlic knots were also very good. Would definitely recommend!

*****

Food is excellent

*****

Good was fast, good and the staff was very sweet. Definitely a must stop if your in Luray, VA!

*****

My husband and I were in town for th weekend and wanted pizza. We googled and found this gem!!! Great service, and great food. The house made chips were absolutely the best homemade chips I’ve ever had. We also had pizza, phenomenal and split a cannoli, also amazing. If we lived closer, this would be a weekly dinner for sure!!!!

*****

Great food

*****

We are here back to back days,. It was that good. Pizza ... Good. Steak and cheese ... Good. Apps ... Good.

*****

The pizza is very light, not greasy at all! Staff were very kind.

*****

Ordered food online from here for the 2nd time, not only was our order delivered half hour early, but its hot, fresh and delicious! 1st time we ordered, food was amazing as well! As locals, we will be ordering here when we want Italian from here on out!

*****

Probably one of the best restaurants for the garlic knots. Absolutely amazing. Tried the meatball sub and it was also excellent. We love coming here while visiting Luray.

*****

Finally made it here today for the first time. Rebecca was my server and she was friendly to those who came in while I was there. I ordered and expensive appetizer of Garlic Knots but they turned out to be a nice large portion. I ordered 12 crispy hot wings and they were a little over crispy but I prefer that vs soggy undercooked wings and I know cooking to crispy is not always easy. The Hot flavor was very good. Wings were expensive but that's to be expected with the ever increasing price of wings. 4 stars due to the overall high price for lunch but it was a good lunch for sure.

*****

Great food, great wait staff.

*****

Kids loved their shrimp pasta. Great customer service and they have a driveup/pickup window for takeout orders!

*****

Really enjoyed the yummy food. Monika and Bryan the owners were very nice. We were on a day ride and found them. We will visit again. Theres more I want to try.

*****

A real hidden gem. Waitress suggested the house chips and they were amazing! I had the saltimbocca which was huge and very tasty. My wife had a margherita pizza which was also very good. A definite stop if in Luray.

*****

Loved it, great food and good service.

*****

Homemade chips with cheesy, garlic, parmesan sauce were addictive. Hubby's saltimbocca was beyond huge & quite good and my margarita pizza was delicious.

*****

The food was fresh and the desserts were light and sweet.

*****

Great food took a while for the food to get there but every restaurant here is short staffed can't blame them too much

*****

Great wings!!

*****

If your looking for a candle light dinner this isn't the place. If your looking for great food and service, THIS IS IT! Being from Baltimore we boast to have some of the best seafood restaurants around. The seafood soup here is soup is excellent and their pizza a delicious crust. Check it out !!

Excellent pizza and subs. The bread for the chicken Parm sub was so good I had to give it a special mention. Would come back. Would recommend as a place for a quick bite..not upscale or anything. Just good American Italian food.

*****

It is the best place I have ever met the people are so friendly.

*****

Great local place for Virginia Italian Food.

*****

Fantastic service and great food. Glad we picked this place

*****

We stopped at this place after visiting the caverns. Its not too often you have good service and good food but this place did both. The crust was amazing and my wife and I literally ate the pizza in like 10 minutes. We talked to the owner who was from Italy and found out shes been working day and night because she cant hire anyone due to the federal unemployment that is still occurring in Virginia. Shes hopeful for the future though.

*****

Love it

*****

Awesome food!

*****

First time eating here and we were very pleased. Food was really good and our waiter was great. Definitely recommend and will definitely be back.

*****

Just walking into il Vesuvio I could smell the garlic and I knew it was going to be delicious! Definitely recommend getting the garlic knots! They were to die for, I could probably just eat a whole meal of those alone!! The small pizza is a perfect size to split with two people. I had tried the hot chicken pizza which was Buffalo sauce, chicken and mozzarella and it was really good! Husband tried their works calzone

*****

Luray has more than just the great outdoors! We found this hidden jem and absolutely loved the food and the service! This will definitely be a return to eatery when we return!! Keep up the great food and service guys!

*****

Great service, great Food

*****

Excellent food. Lived the Garlic Knots - a very strong portioned appetizer. Also loved my calzone, and my family also got the Alfredo and chicken marsala - also excellent dishes. Yum!

*****

This was a family owned business in the Historical part of Luray. The place was very clean. Our waitress/ Owner was Monica and she was amazing, efficient, and very polite. They were short on help like all small towns after this Covid but she was doing a great job. I was so happy to support this local small business. We ordered garlic knots to start and they were hot and perfect. I then ordered baked Ziti and my friend ordered the lasagna. Again the orders came out hot and delicious. I would definitely eat here again and refer my friends if we come back to this area.

*****

Kinda dirty but great pizza and good service.

*****

Best pizza we've had in the region. Pizza is NY style with thin crust. People working there (the owner?) were very nice and helpful. Place is clean and well maintained. Highly recommended.

*****

Literally so good. If you are considering it DEFINITELY go, the food was amazing, super friendly staff and you will definitely leave satisfied.

*****

The food delicious, perfect portions for me and my hubby, great service

*****

As there are extremely limited dining times and capacity in the Park, we went outside. This place was definitely worth the drive.

*****

Service was INCREDIBLE, especially with our waitress Rebecca. The food was superb, I had the garlic knots and baked ziti. One million out of 10!!!!

*****

Delicious, great service - the best garlic knots around! Small little place, don't expect anything fancy!

*****

Omg, what a great piece of tiramusu. Definitely homemade by someone who knows what they're doing. I managed an Italian market and deli for over 5 years so I know good Italian food. Very impressive and can't wait to come back!

*****

Loved this little place nestled in the beautiful town of Luray. We ordered a pizza and a calzone. The pizza was good but was dry. The calzone was yummy. The calzone bread was so fresh and tasted so good that we couldnt resist ordering one more for take out.

*****

Good

*****

Took over thirty minutes after we ordered. Maybe understaffed but they were busy. They got everything right and everything was good.

*****

They were short staffed due to the whole COVID thing. So the wait was a bit long (35 minutes) but the cheese pizza and veggie calzone were very good. Servers seemed nice. Place was clean and nice. Id recommend it.

*****

Great Food.

We love the shendoah national Park . Everything is wonderful

Stopped in Luray on a road trip and stumbled upon this bundle of joy. The food was fantastic and the service was even better (thank you Sadie!!). I highly recommend this place to all!

*****

LOVED this place!! Great food, great service! Ordered 2 different pasta dishes, a pizza, and appetizers. Everything was amazing! Feddi, our waitress, was so nice and did a great job! This place had a Mystic Pizza feel! Nothing fancy, but clean, friendly, and amazing food! Like in the movie, it gets my highest rating!

This is right across the street from the Mimslyn Inn, so very convenient if you're staying there. It has a nice, laid back family vibe, and the staff were so friendly. The food arrived quickly and was delicious!

*****

Food and service were both really good. We were a party of 6 each getting something different and we all enjoyed our order. Garlic knots were amazing!

*****

Very good place for lunch

*****

Amazing place. Believe me You have to stop for amazing pizzas and saltimbocca. You must try steak saltimbocca maybe less mayo need to them. But best food and great employee.

*****

I'm from Gallatin, Tennessee. We visited this, I assume, locally owned and operated restaurant this evening. Enjoy the Food, Service was Excellent, and the Folks are very Friendly here. I recommend this restaurant to all who like Italian Food like myself.

*****

Just went here today after visiting the caverns- great service and amazing Italian food! Definitely worth it!

*****

Have eaten there often when visiting Luray. A "go-to" favorite for years. Recently brightly renovated, consistently good Italian food with generous portions, prompt, courteous wait staff and modest country prices. I often take friends there and have never been disappointed.

*****

Cold drinks, tasty classic pasta, and great outdoor seating! If you're looking for warm, tasty comfort Italian food this is the place to be

*****

Friendly people. Food was fresh and tasty. Great for meal after Luray Caverns visit.

*****

Absolutely delighted with the pizzas and wings we ordered for a large family party. Monica and Rebecca were so helpful and everything was delicious!

*****

My fianc and I were in Luray from DC for a weekend. This place was around the corner from our B&B. The food was absolutely fantastic! The pasta and pizza hit the spot and were clearly made with very fresh ingredients. As an archaeologist who works in Pompeii and has spent significant time in Naples, I was happy to find out that the family who owns the restaurant is from Naples as well. We liked the food so much that we actually got dinner from them two nights in a row!! 10/10 would recommend!

*****

The food was amazing. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back next time I come down!

*****

Lovely find! Happened upon while on a business trip and needed something to eat. Service was quick, and food was excellent! Nichole was awesome. Will definitely stop by again the next time Im in town.

*****

Stopped here because it was the first resturant we passed and was happy we did. Everything from the sweet tea to the calzone was great. Portion was big enough to split. Friendly staff, would stop again when up in Luray.

*****

Food was excellent, service was great!

*****

Great spot of great pizza. Had the cheese pizza and the sauce and crust were fantastic. Super friendly staff.

*****

We had a wonderful experience over Memorial Day Weekend while visiting Luray, VA. Our server, Federicka, was attentive to all our needs without being overbearing. She went above and beyond to provide us with efficient service from the time we sat down until we walked out of the door. To top it off, the food was absolutely delicious! A local woman recommended the garlic knots appetizer as we walked in and they were done to perfection! The chicken parm sub and The Work Pizza were to die for! 10/10 would recommend across the board!

*****

This is a small family run business and you can see everyone is working really hard. We got pizza, subs, and fries. It was all delicious. Wed come back!

*****

Great food! The waitress was kind and the food came out fast!

*****

Fresh and Nice food! Loved the experience.

*****

I had a fantastic Margherita Pizza on Friday. It was delivered in record time & was delicious! Sadie provided excellent customer service.

*****

Pretty good, its a small place, everyone was socially distanced but Im still not eating in a restaurant so just did takeout. I got a large pepperoni and the calamari. The calamari was pretty good but wish the breading was less thick. The pizza was pretty good, had a homemade taste, not like the franchise taste which is so generic. Sauce was good, very cheesy, good crust. If Im ever back in the area Ill eat here again

*****

Food was good and the new girl did very well!

*****

Had the pleasure of stumbling onto this restaurant with 2 friends after a long day of motorcycle riding. 1st, food was excellent. I had the meat calzone, friends had steak and cheese sub and grilled chicken sub. Portions are generous and calzone was cooked to perfection. 2nd, and most important... our server Rene is exactly what most restaurants are missing these days. She was enthusiastic, knowledgeable about the menu, engaging and very attentive without hovering. The owners of Il Vesuvio are fortunate to have her and I’ll be making this a regular stop on future trips to the area.

*****

Had a great time, our waitress Renee, made it a blast. Hope I spelled her name correctly. Great food and clean restaurant.

*****

The food was fresh and delicious. Our server Renee out did herself. We will be back on our next trip to Luray, highly recommend!

*****

Some of the best pizza Ive ever had and Im from New Jersey! The crust was fresh and clearly homemade. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! If youre in Luray for any reason you need to stop here.

*****

If you're hungry after hiking Shenandoah or Massanutten, stop by! Service was fantastic and outdoor patio was cute and cozy.

*****

Nice, reasonable mom & pop restaurant with decent food and very helpful wait staff.

*****

Friendly

*****

I tried the Vesuvio sub and my family had the meat pizza. I give it a 4 stars on the sub but a tasty 5 on pizza.

*****

An amazing experience. Great food, highly recommend the garlic knots as an appetizer! Good homemade Italian food, cant go wrong with that.

*****

Quick easy affordable food. I had a Margherita pizza and it was made quite well. Kids were happy with nuggets and fries. It's not a place I'd rave about but good enough to pull 5 stars from me, especially due to the ample outdoor seating which is always a big bonus for me.

*****

Friendly staff and great food! Would definitely recommend.

*****

Great food. Great service. The pizza was so good and the toppings generous, a small pizza was more than big enough for two of us. The prices are extremely reasonable.

*****

Went to luray caverns and had dinner afterwards. We absolutely LOVED the home made sauce and the dishes we had. Went back the next day for more. If we ever pass through that area again, it will definitely be a stop.

*****

Overall: A small-stop restaurant that can quench your pizza craving.

The good: Friendly service, good prices, and overall a good pizza. They have a decent amount of outdoor seating with COVID in mind, and the menu is surprisingly large. The mozzarella sticks were gooey and well-sized, and came out pretty quick. The pizza has a chewy (in a good way) crust and a "healthy" amount of toppings. We left full and happy

The not-so-good: Not much really. It's not a brick-oven pizza experience and not something I'm going to write home about coming from a big city, but for what it is it does it well.

Food/drink: 8/10
Atmosphere: 8/10
Service: 8/10

*****

Food is delicious

*****

One of those hidden gems with great service and food. Don't let the small building stop you from their flavorful meals.

This place was a chill hole in the wall!! Great prices, great pizza and awesome staff! The tunes were good too!

*****

The food was really good. The steak and cheese is worth a try. The staff weren't wearing masks and someone was eating behind the counter.

*****

Great pizza and salads

*****

Stopped here for a quick lunch after visiting Luray Caverns. It wasn't busy at 1pm, and we got our choice of seating outside. Enjoyed the vegetarian pizza and chef's salad

*****

What a surprise! Delicious homemade Italian cousine. Delicious genaro soup and large calzone for 3! Best restaurant in MDV area. And the pasta come with salad.

*****

Ask for the special sauce that comes on the house chips. Put it on EVERYTHING!!! We loved it! The people were great to local family owed 10 out 10

*****

Outstanding food & service. Enjoyed a pasta special (clams, tomato, white wine sauce) & calzone, both were delicious! Chef is creative & they pay attention to nice dining details. Highly recommend eating here.

Me and my wife are in town visiting staying at Hotel Laurance, right down the street. We stopped here twice on our trip and the food was great! We had the subs the first time, then had to try the pizza the next day! Did not disappoint. The staff is amazing and such a great family! Next time our life brings us to Luray we will be making a stop here.

*****

Passing through town and the smell was great.
Steak sub and calazone was awesome.
I will make a point to stop in agai n

*****

The portion sizes are HUGE my wife and I loved the flavors of everything we ordered the staff is very nice and quick to get refills and whatnot the prices are very reasonable for the quality you are getting. As far as the feel of the place it's a very free and open it's definitely a must have if you are in the area

*****

First, you can order online. Second, I highly recommend ordering ahead as this place can get very busy. Our online order was estimated to be about a 30-35 min wait before it was ready. I arrived to pick it up and the place was filled. The confirmation email after you order online will have a check number on it. Know your number so you can tell them to help speed things along. It was probably another 5min afterwards that I got my food. The workers were extremely nice even though they were extremely busy. We got a 12" margarita pizza and some mild wings. Both extremely good and would recommend. Just be warned that this place gets packed and you may have to wait if you don't order ahead.

*****

My favorite pizza restaurant ever

*****

Great, friendly service! Tight but cozy atmosphere! Gluten free pizza was AMAZING; crispy and held together enough to eat like normal pizza even. Caprese salad on the side was a nice addition. Dont think you can go wrong in this place, we cleaned our plates!

*****

Great place to eat. Service and hospitality was great. Prices are good .

Hidden gem, best garlic knots I've ever had. Wedding soup and entrees were very good!

*****

Really solid option for dinner, and the prices are 5-star worthy, but overall the food is just good. It won't blow you away, but you'll like it.

*****

The food was amazing. I would recommend it if you are in Luray.

*****

My wife and I were able to have Gennaro's provide catering for our wedding. We were married at Stoneyman Valley Ranch, approximately 15 minutes away from the restaurant. The food was fantastic! Our guests were greatly pleased with the garlic knots, manicotti, and chicken picatta, and they even made us a special batch of lumpia even though lumpia are not a menu item! We were very happy with our experience and highly recommend Gennaro's whenever you happen to be in Luray!

*****

The food was very good.

*****

Great food! It isn't often that you find pizza crust and sauce like this without going to New York.

*****

Decent place. Delivered to local brewery. Chicken Caesar salad was good. Gluten free pizza was not.

*****

Had I not found this restaurant via Google and had just passed by it on the road, we never would have stopped there. It's basically an unassuming little stand alone mom and pop shop. The pizza was delicious. I personally don't usually care for pizza sauce; but their's was amaaaazing!... I would definitely go there again if we're ever traveling through Luray again.

*****

Good food and lovely staff. Had dinner here with a friend and the waitress told us they now served breakfast, so we stopped in for breakfast the next morning, and it was just as delicious as dinner. Will definitely recommend and eat at again the next time I'm in Luray.

Highly recommend to all tourists!

Nice little find while in town wandering the caves. Food was great and plentiful. Wait staff was extremely friendly. I think we overwhelmed her with our party of 13. But they got our food right out. Would definitely recommend this small town diner.

We were on a weekend getaway in Luray, and we were craving Italian food. And Il Vesuvio popped up on our Google search. And let me just say, WOW!!! The food was delicious and staff were incredibly nice. We had a pizza, (sauce on pizza was AMAZING) house chips, and Il Vesuvio sub. So fresh, so delicious ???? I HIGHLY recommend the house chips as an appetizer. We were pleasantly surprised by the freshness of everything. Can't wait for our next trip to Luray because we will stop in again.

*****

Breakfast was so good. Never have I thought that in a small town there wa a good home cooked breakfast. Will be back!

*****

Just finished eating here before hitting Luray Caverns, it was great!!

*****

Great food and friendly service.

*****

Round of applause to Rebecca! That girl did her thing. My mother and I were in on a Saturday and was so amazed by how welcomed she made us feel and how great the food was, we came back the next day to see her and get some more great food. The only con was it looked like she was the only one running around trying to make everyone happy and to make her worse, her coworkers Brenda & Cindy decided to come out on the patio where we were eating and talk crap about Rebecca right in front of us while Rebecca was busting her butt. Super unprofessional and made us feel pretty uncomfortable! Great food and awesome service by Rebecca!

*****

Stopped by after Luray Caverns visit. 5 min drive into Dwtn Luray. We are from Florida. We got lucky with this restaurant. Excellent real Italian food! Pepperoni Pizza was fabulous. Great sauce! Just the right amount of seasoning. Stromboli was delicious! Prices very reasonable. Staff(Fredrica) was kind and attentive. Staff wears masks and cleans tables appropriately. Highly recommend this place!!

Gennaros was excellent! Brenda our waitress was perfect and very friendly. Stuffed Shells couldn’t be more on point. Great place to eat and prices were good. I would highly recommend this place.

Gennaro's is a gem that shines more brightly with each passing year. Here you can find the best pizza, veal dishes, seafood pasta, Italian soups and wonderful desserts.
His authentic Neopolitan cuisine is complemented by his wife's Caribbean dishes all served in very generous portions. The menu is extensive but not expensive.

Such a great restaurant with really good food! Would totally recommend dining here when visiting the town! Great food and great customer service. The location is great, super close to Luray Caverns & Shenandoah Valley! Stop by, because who doesn’t love pizza?!

Taste the difference:A display board in the restaurant says "There is a big difference between the big chains and independent pizzeria". This is truest in every sense.

The staff are friendly and were helpful in selecting the dishes. We had a vegetarian in our group. When we asked for suggestions, the waiter said that pretty much all dishes can be changed to be without meat. So vegetarians, you can be assured of a superb tasting and quality dishes here.

The pizza crust was thin and loaded with vegetables. The sauce is home made and has won accolades. The bread in cheesy garlic bread, was fresh and crunchy. They use home made bread. The owner was friendly and described each dish in detail.

If you are looking for a warm place with homely food then this is the place.

My wife and I came to the cabins for a romantic getaway for my birthday and decided to try this place for dinner the first night. Restaurant was very small and clean. The food we received was delicious. The pizza is very good and we are pizza snobs. We enjoyed them so much we decided to go back for lunch the next day. If we lived closer, this would be a regular place we would visit!
